Intentional Living and Travel: Passions Prioritized - Intentional Travelers
Dog park at Minto-Brown Park, Salem, Oregon | Intentional Travelers

20 May Intentional Living and Travel: Passions Prioritized started out as a blog about the topics of intentional living and travel. You could say that these are our two main passions. They don’t have to go together, but for us, they do.

(As a reminder, our definition of intentional is: knowing what our true values are, then making deliberate choices to prioritize those values in our life.)

Big Picture Thinking

Step back for a moment and think about the big picture of your life. Sometimes it helps to imagine you have a year left to live. Or imagine that you’ve come to the end of your days and reflect on how you spent each one. This is not meant to be morbid, but to help bring your priorities into focus.

What about your past are you most proud of? What did you wish you spent more time doing? What are your biggest regrets?

When I reflect on my own life, I don’t want to come to the end of my days and feel like they were wasted. I want my life to have made an impact on people and improved the world in some small way. I want the people I love to know how much I care about them. And I don’t want to have kept my dreams up on a shelf, waiting for a day that never came.

Prioritizing Passions

I’ve realized that seeing the world is a major passion of mine. Seeing how other people live and interact helps me understand human nature and challenges my preconceptions. Witnessing harsh realities in other places helps me understand how systems in our world work and what small role I can play in possibly changing them.

Because these things captivate me, I’ve chosen to prioritize the pursuit of transformational travel in my life. It means taking away time, energy, and money from other pursuits, but it’s an intentional choice. To me, the sacrifices are worth it.

Everyone has different values and passions. Which ones are you choosing to prioritize?
