Convenience

Narrowing down what to do in Bangkok can be overwhelming. The GoCity Pass makes it easy to choose with their curated, pre-vetted list of tours.

While some activities on the pass do require advanced reservations, the process is easy to do online. Sign up for a time slot of your choice with your unique pass number, no additional purchases necessary.

Then, when you arrive at an attraction, simply show your digital pass to get in.

Save Time

If you’re short on time, GoCity’s Bangkok travel pass eliminates extra trip planning research by curating the best things to do. 

We had other things to get done in Bangkok, like health check ups and our regular online work, which left little time for sight seeing. I just didn’t have the bandwidth for much pre-planning, so the Bangkok tourist pass allowed us to explore without spending tons of time figuring out a DIY itinerary.

The main reason to use an attractions pass is to save money, and you can do just that with the Bangkok GoCity Pass.

When using the card strategically, you can save up to 60% on admission costs.

People who save the most money with the All-Inclusive Pass are those who visit the most expensive attractions back-to-back. For the Explorer Pass, you save money by essentially “bundling” higher priced day tours and activities.

Is the Bangkok GoCity Pass worth it?

The Bangkok GoCity Pass can be a great value, depending on your trip goals and schedule. Let’s take a look at who the card is best for.

Who is the Bangkok GoCity Pass good for?

Here are the types of travelers who can get the most out of a Bangkok GoCity Pass.

First time visitors

If it’s your first time to Bangkok, Thailand, the GoCity Pass includes the top tourist attractions in Bangkok as well as some of the best day trips.

We met a couple visiting Bangkok for the first time who listed off the top three things they wanted to do during their visit: food tour, market tour, and cooking class. All three are included in the Pass, but they hadn’t heard of it so they missed out on saving some money!

Short trips

If you’re only in Bangkok for a few days, the GoCity All Inclusive Pass is a great way to maximize your itinerary. You can see and experience a lot with your planning streamlined through GoCity’s curated offerings.

Need help planning

Whether you’re overwhelmed with the options or just don’t want to bother doing tons of research, the GoCity Bangkok tourist card simplifies it.

Usually, I love trip planning but our recent visit to Bangkok was one time where I just didn’t have capacity to figure out the best things to do, how to arrange transportation for day trips, etc. Selecting tours from the Explorer Pass was a huge relief, then all we had to do was show up.

Families and Groups

There is a discount on the pass for children under 12. Travel costs can add up when you’re paying for multiple people, but for activities included on the Pass, there’s more to save.

Also, if you’re traveling with a group of 10 or more, you may be eligible for a group discount. Just contact GoCity.

When is the Bangkok GoCity Pass not worth it?

If you don’t plan to do very many of the activities included on the Bangkok GoCity Pass, then you’ll save more money just paying admission a la carte.

Some of the attractions can be booked separately on GetYourGuide.

Likewise, if you’re only interested in lower priced activities, like bicycle rentals, museums, or hop-on-hop-off transportation, then skip the tourist pass. These cheaper activities are especially not worth using up one of your Explorer Pass choices on, but they can be a good addition to an All Inclusive Pass itinerary.

Usually with other City Passes, if your schedule doesn’t allow for visiting attractions back-to-back, then I’d say the pass is not worth it. However, Bangkok’s Explorer Pass option works great in this case because you have 60 days to take advantage your attraction choices.

Finally, if you want a highly personal, customized tour experience of Bangkok, you’d be better off hiring a local guide for your stay or booking a multi-day private tour. It should be noted that public transit is not included in the pass, so you will need to figure out your own transportation to and from activities.

The activities included in the GoCity offerings include group tours which are well run and appeal to the average visitor, but don’t expect luxury or special treatment.
 

Tips for getting the best value from the Bangkok GoCity Pass

To make the Bangkok Pass worth it, I highly recommend staying in the heart of Bangkok because many of the activities are centrally located. Even better if you’re close to River City Bangkok, which is the meeting point for several of the tours.

The Silom district or closer to the river would work well. We were a bit further out and did run into some traffic issues while trying to make it to the meeting point.

Using the Bangkok GoCity Pass for 2 days  

If you’re in Bangkok for two days and want to make the All-Inclusive Bangkok Pass worth it, start with the big ticket items.

For example, choose between the Thai Cooking Class or Grand Palace Walking Tour in the morning.

This will allow you to do the Michelin Guide Street Food Tour by Tuk Tuk or the Dinner Cruise on the same day. Plus, you could enjoy the Hop-On-Hop-Off boat between activities.

On the second day, I would recommend choosing a day trip like the Floating Market and Railway Market Tour or the trip to Ayutthaya Ancient Ruins.

Depending on traffic, these will drop you back in Bangkok between 3 and 5pm at MBK Mall, a central location with access to many public transit options.

Alternatively, you could stay in Bangkok and take advantage of multiple smaller tours and attractions.

To end day two, you could pre-schedule a dinner or an evening massage, just give yourself plenty of time for transit. Massages are available by reservation at four different Let’s Relax locations in town up until 10pm.

Bangkok GoCity Pass itinerary: 3 day Bangkok GoCity All Inclusive Pass

Actually, your itinerary can become even more valuable with the 3 day pass, since the All-Inclusive pricing is only about $30 more to add a day.

With a three day itinerary, the recommendations are the same as above, but you wouldn’t have to choose between tours mentioned.

For example, you could do:
Day 1 – Thai Cooking Class, Hop On Hop Off Boat or Bike Rental, Tuk-Tuk Food Tour
Day 2 – Grand Palace Walking Tour, Museum or Amusement Park visits, Dinner Cruise
Day 3 – Floating Market and Railway Market Tour, Massage

Budget Break Down:
A la carte cost for attractions: ~$266
Cost of 3 day GoCity pass: $121
Savings with GoCity card: $145 (55%)

Getting the most out of the Explorer Pass for longer Bangkok stays

If you’re like us, cramming all your Bangkok sightseeing back-to-back in a few short days is not going to work. That’s where the Explorer Pass comes in.

You can spread out your activity choices over the 60 day validity period. For this reason, when using an Explorer Pass, your itinerary can be much more flexible. 

In some ways, it’s easier to tell if the Explorer Pass will be worth the cost. Your savings are directly related to the attractions you select, not how many things you can do in a day. 

A general rule of thumb to make the most of the Explorer Pass is to use it on activities that are at least 675 baht ($20) in value. Fortunately, about two thirds of the GoCity activities qualify.

Let’s look at a three day Bangkok itinerary with the GoCity 3-Choice Explorer Pass. Keep in mind that you could spread out the days you use the pass.

For example, you could do:
Day 1 – Michelin Street Food Tuk-Tuk Food Tour
Day 2 – Thai Cooking Class
Day 3 – Ayutthaya Day Tour to 4 Temples

Budget Break Down:
A la carte cost for attractions: ~$125
Cost of 3-choice GoCity Explorer pass: $58.50
Savings with GoCity card: ~$67 (53%)

Our personal choice was to do the Tuk-Tuk Food Tour, Floating Market and Railway Market Tour, and then the Ayutthaya Day Tour.

Damnoen Saduak Market and Maeklong Railway Market

We actually had the same tour guide, Kay, on our food tour as well as our market tour later in the week.

Both tours are run by GoCity’s partner, BigCountry Experiences, and it starts by getting yourself to the meeting point: River City, a shopping center along the river.

On the food tour, we had our own tuk tuk driver and went around Chinatown in a small group with the tour guide and two other pairs of other participants.

For the market tour, there were groups of 10 to 12 per guide and we road in air-conditioned mini vans to the two destinations outside the city, plus a short ride on a third-class railcar that pulls right into the market.

Kay shared cultural and historical information with us and was good about letting us know what to expect throughout the tour. She let us know that the tour ends in a different location and ensured that we could find our way back to our accommodations via our choice of public transit or Grab/taxi.

Ayutthaya Day Tour to 4 Temples

Ayutthaya is a significant archeological site a couple hours outside of Bangkok. Often compared to Angkor Wat in Cambodia, this is a great day trip and stark contrast from the big city.

This day tour provided air-conditioned bus transportation to four temples with an English-speaking guide. Water and a simple Thai lunch were also provided.

After a short intro about the historical significance of each temple, our guide gave us time to explore the grounds on our own.

I found it to be a nice balance between guidance and independence, with plenty of time to explore and get a sense of this incredible place.

While we could have figured out how to visit Ayutthaya on our own, it was much easier to have our transportation, itinerary, and lunch already taken care of.

How much money can you save with the Bangkok GoCity Pass?

How much you save will depend on your itinerary. If you were to max out the Bangkok GoCity Pass, you could save more than $175, or 60% off attractions. 

It really depends on your itinerary and activity choices.

How to buy the Bangkok GoCity Pass

Does it sound like the Bangkok GoCity Pass is right for you? If so, buy your Bangkok GoCity Pass here.

After purchasing the pass, you will receive an order confirmation in your email. You have three options on how to get your pass.

First, you can download the GoCity app and add your pass to the app. Instructions on how to sync your pass to the GoCity app will be provided in the confirmation email.

Adding the pass to the GoCity app will not activate the pass.

Second option is you can print your pass using the link in your confirmation email.

And third option is to show a version of the pass on your phone through the link in your confirmation email.

The important thing is to be able to show your QR code to be scanned at the attraction. You may also need the corresponding Pass Number when making advanced reservations for certain activities.

When you get to each attraction, tour, or activity, simply show your pass with QR code for entry.

The pass will be activated the first time you use it.

You can then visit as many attractions as you like using the All-Inclusive pass within the number of days you chose the pass to be valid for. For the Explorer pass, you have 60 days to visit the number of attractions your pass grants you.

Please note that the Bangkok GoCity Pass is subject to a Purse Value, which is based on the validity period of the pass. The purse value is the maximum amount you can use based on the standard gate price for each attraction. For example, with the 2-day adult All-Inclusive Pass, you can visit as many attractions up to the total value of $414.81.

In my experience, it would be a stretch to go over the purse value amount, so most travelers won’t have to worry about these limits.

Bangkok GoCity Pass Review: Conclusion

Using the GoCity Bangkok Travel Pass allowed us to see much more of Bangkok than we would have otherwise. With limited time to figure out what to do in Bangkok, beyond our scheduled appointments and online work, the city card gave us an opportunity to fit in some great day trips.

Granted, the activities focus on popular tourist activities, so it’s not the thing to do if you want to get really off the beaten path.

I think the Bangkok city pass is a good value if you’re looking for convenience, time savings, and don’t mind small group experiences with other tourists.
