Motorbike Tour From Hue to Hoi An, Central Vietnam
You’re traveling through Central Vietnam, from Huế to Hoi An (or vise versa). You could take the bus – probably the cheapest option. You could take a train. You could rent a car. Or hire a private driver.
Or you could take Vietnam’s most typical mode of transportation: the motorbike, and have a spectacular adventure along the way.

Why we ended up on the back of a motorbike
The idea of taking a motorbike tour was sparked by our friends and fellow Returned Peace Corps Volunteers, John and Kate. They told us about an overnight motorbike tour they did through some ethnic minority villages outside of Hoi An. It sounded absolutely amazing, but a tour like that was a splurge for our budget style of travel.
Then, while researching our options for travel between Huế and Hoi An in Central Vietnam, I came across the possibility of going by motorbike. The commitment of time and finances was smaller than some of the other tours – and, heck, we had to get from one place to the other somehow, right?
So a couple days before leaving Huế, I e-mailed the guide our friends recommended, and Mr. Phu responded quickly. We were booked!
Update: We have enjoyed several motorbike tours with Phu since we first met. Each time we visit Hoi An, he shows us new places by motorbike. We recommend him to all our friends!

Who Should Go On A Motorbike Tour
We saw a lot of tourists along the way who had rented their own motorcycles for the journey. This is certainly another option if you’re comfortable handling the bike and navigating the Vietnam roads. But you could also have your adventure with someone more capable handling the stress of driving. Then you can sit back, take in the scenery, and snap pictures.
This kind of motorbike tour is for folks who enjoy just being along for the ride. Though the guides speak English, there are some things that get lost in translation, so you have to be up for whatever comes your way. Just trust that they will take care of you.
You will not be “roughing it” but this is a developing country and you will be right in the middle of it all, so you can’t expect a highly polished experience. The guides will take care of everything, down to water bottles for your breaks and entry fees into each attraction, since the tour cost is all inclusive.
They will also share the history, local legends, and other interesting points about the places you visit along the way.
